Gaafu Dhaal Atoll Konotta has been acquired by Maramiyya Group International; this island was to be developed as a 225 bed tourism resort.
In Maldives where the economic wealth of the nation is in the hands of less than 1% of the population, Maramiyya Group seems to be investing an awful lot of money.

Maramiyya Group manages half of the resorts it owns. The management of the other half are leased to international hotel chains such are W Hotels, Hilton, Arab World and Kerzner Intenational. Moomina the recently appointed PA to Chief CEO turns out to be one in a million. According to Chief CEO Moomina holds numerous likable characteristics over his previous personal assistants, including bigger breasts, longer legs, and a smaller waist.
Though her unflagging sucking up to superiors was the key to her career advancements in the government, Moomina said that her instinctive talent for taking credit for the work of others also played a major role. Explaining about her time at the government she said she was able to steal a significant amount of the credit for others’ achievements, reaping the rewards of others’ work in order to promote herself.
A master player in solitaire, Moomina has little to no demonstrable talent to speak of, the Chief CEO is confident that she will prove skillful at finding ways to appear useful and busy.
“There are going to be some pointless changes around this organization” said Chief CEO.
The good-hearted Chief CEO allowed other employees of Maramiyya Group to promote themselves and seems to have said to write what ever position they desired and they actually got the position as they wrote. Minister of Finance and Treasury, Buruma Gasim, a long time admirer of Chief CEO followed the same strategy. Self-promotion spree has been observed in other government ministries including Ministry of Health, Ministry of Planning and National Development, Ministry of Transport and Communications and others.

Maramiyya Group today cleared the ballot papers and ballot boxes for the upcoming presidential election from customs and handed them over to the Office of the Commissioner of Elections.
Maramiyya Group won the bid to supply ballot papers and ballot boxes for this year’s presidential election by competing against major publishers of Maldives and Sri Lanka.
Chief CEO said, “We have made it very easy for the voters this time. We printed half of the ballot papers already ticked for the right candidate as instructed by the Commissioner. Votes for 15 atolls are already in the boxes and they have been closed and attached with security tape. “
The new procedures issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Elections are in an effort to reduce the time taken in counting the votes and to block any vote rigging by one particular candidate. It is believed with the new regulations the results of the election can be declared within hours.

Maramiyya Group is to launch a new Parent Teacher Communication portal in the Maldives. The portal is to be developed beause the Parent Teacher Communication Book that is currently used in schools is an out of date method of communication between parents and teachers.
Speaking to Diary programme on TVM several teachers noted that the PTC book, which is currently included in the list of books that students have to buy before the commencement of the academic year, is out of date. Some teachers said they use mobile phones to communicate with parents, especially after the cheaper call rates offered by Maramiyya owned Wataniyya and Dhiraagu. Several parents also feel that PTC book is out of date while some still use it, for various purposes such as informing the teachers the reason why a student could not go to school on a particular day.
Parent Teacher Communication Book was a novel method introduced to the education system under the guidance of His Excellency Maumoon Abdul Gayoom more than a decade ago. These are the processes involved in the PTC Book method.
PTC Book is printed at Government Printers or private printers commissioned by the Government
PTC Book is included in the list of books that students have to buy for the new academic year
Parents buy the books in the list including the PTC book. Parents spend a large percentage of their monthly income and sometimes more on buying all the books. Some poor parents send letters to rich people like Qasim Ibrahim begging for a donation
School regulations say students have to carry PTC Book everyday to school
Parents write the reasons for an absence like the student becoming sick
Teachers write the instructions for parents like informing them of programmes for Teachers’ Day
Student is suspended if he or she doesn’t carry the PTC Book and if the teacher finds it out. This happens rarely as the PTC Book is hardly used.
The year ends
After thorough analysis of the processes involved, Maramiyya t-RnD, the Technology Research & Development subsidiary of Maramiyya Group, has come up with plans for building the PTC portal. The PTC portal will enable teachers and parents to send sms, emails, pictures and videos. In case of misbehaviour in class, the teacher will be able to capture videos of the misbehaving student on mobile phones and send them to parents as proof. This feature has been added because of the number of cases in which parents refuse to accept that their children will misbehave.
The portal will enable teachers and parents to have affairs as well. However, affairs between teachers and students will be strictly restricted by our screening filters. The portal will enable teachers to receive more gifts on Teachers’ Day as well.
The portal will bring discipline and order to schools, especially to Aminiyya School in which fights among students are common now. Last year Star Force had to intervene to control a fight that broke out among students of Aminiyya, the only girls school in the Maldives.
The PTC portal is developed free and will be gifted to the education system of Maldives by Maramiyya. The portal will be launched just before the election this year.
“I haven’t decided if I’ll run for presidency this year” said the Chief CEO.
Dhiraagu, the Maldives Telecom Company, has pledged to give 3GB of their bandwidth, for this project.
President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom was given the coveted “Sri Lanka Mitra Vibhushana” award by President Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka at a ceremony held on Tuesday.
The Sri Lanka Mitra Vibhushana Award is conferred on Heads of States and Heads of Governments with which Sri Lanka has friendly relations, in appreciation of their friendship towards and solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka. President Gayoom is the first recipient of this coveted award.
At a colourful ceremony held at the Presidential Secretariat Tuesday afternoon, the highest national honour of Sri Lanka to foreign Heads of State or Government was conferred on President Gayoom by President Rajapaksa. The citation of the award was announced by the Secretary to the President, Mr. Lalith Weerasinghe.
The honour was awarded to President Gayoom in recognition of the President’s outstanding contributions to the friendship between the two countries, enhancement of regional cooperation, and the global campaign on climate change.
In his acceptance speech, President Gayoom said that the award was a “fitting tribute to the age-old close friendship and solidarity between the two countries”. Highlighting that it was a great honour for the Maldives that the very first recipient of this prestigious award was a Maldivian, the President said that this fact alone spoke volumes of the ever-growing friendship and cooperation between Sri Lanka and the Maldives. He also emphasised that the honour would remain as a lasting symbol of amity and good neighbourliness that the two peoples had enjoyed over the centuries.
The President noted that the Maldives and Sri Lanka are old friends and allies. “Our friendship is no doubt a multidimensional one”, he said.
Later in the evening while speaking at the State Banquet hosted in his honour by the Sri Lankan President, he dedicated the award to the Maldivian people.
